I’m thrilled to reveal the cover of my new novel, The Art of the Break. The title refers to an important step in cheesemaking. A clean break is called when the heated milk mixture attains just the right consistency. The cheesemaker places the back of her/his fingers in the coagulated milk and lifts. If the mixture breaks clean, she/he can move to the next step in the process. The main character in The Art of the Break, takes over her family’s cheese factory in the fictional town of Falls River, Wisconsin. In the story, she learns starting over is not easy and healing after traumatic loss is possible. The spark of this story started in college when a friend took me to visit a cheese factory in northern Wisconsin. Since then, I’ve been fascinated with the art and science of cheesemaking. The novel, published by the amazing University of Wisconsin Press, will be available October 4, 2022.
